Every time you apply for a job, a cover letter has to be sent along with the resume. Since the same resume is used for applying for a number of jobs, the cover letter is an indication why you are most suitable for the job and should be called for the interview. Though time consuming, you should customize the cover letter for every job you apply for. In addition to your contact details, date and name of the company you are applying to, the cover letter should include the following information 1. The position for which you are applying and why you are specifically interested in that particular position.
2. How you are qualified for the particular position, cite specific projects or assignments which you have completed. Do not quote directly from your resume, rephrase it in your own words. Research the company, its clients and important developments and mention how your experience is relevant. You may also indicate how your qualifications match those specified in the job posting.
3. Mention the enclosed resume and thank the employer for considering your resume.
Some tips for writing cover letters. 1. Proofread the cover letter and ensure that there are no grammatical and spelling errors. Since the cover letter is specifically written for the particular job, the chances of errors are higher.
2. Try to find out the details of the person who will make the hiring decision, and mention him or her specifically in your resume. This will improve your chances of getting hired.
3. Use natural language avoid complicated sentences and flowery language. You may mention terms specific to the industry in which you are working. |
