Most employers will ask for a resume or curriculum vitae when you apply
for a job, so that they can shortlist candidates who meet their
requirements. For walk in interviews, you are still required to carry a
resume, so that questions can be asked accordingly by the interviewer.
Before writing a resume, you should be very sure about the kind of
job you are looking for and prepare your resume accordingly.
There are many templates
and resume builder tools available for preparing your resume or curriculum
vitae. However, there are certain important factors to be considered
1. All information should be
properly organized and arranged sequentially. For example, all your
educational qualifications should be grouped together. Your personal
information should be listed last.
2. The font and font size
should be readable and uniform. Generally Arial or Times New Roman font
in black ink is preferred.
3. Summarize your experience
and training in one or two sentences. If more information is required, you
will be asked to elaborate about the work you have done in the interview.
4. All information should be
accurate and the employer should be able to verify it. Most large
companies will ask for a copy of your educational certificates
for verifications . They will terminate the services of employees who
provide false information.
Your resume/ curriculum vitae (CV) should include your
full name, address and telephone number. Avoid abbreviations , which may
cause confusion. Include your skills, job objective, education and other
relevant information like languages known which may help you on the job.
Personal interests may also be briefly mentioned.
Unless specified in the job posting, references may not be included
in the resume. However, if you are short listed after the interview, you
are usually asked for references. Take prior permission from the person,
before you list him or her as a reference. Your reference could be your
teacher, an earlier employer, a friend or someone who has advised you.
